Irmeli Halinen

Expert and counselor in education, directed the development of the curriculum 2012- 2016 at the Finnish National Council of Education, Helsinki (Finland).
Irmeli Halinen has been Director of Curriculum Development and Education Advisor at the Finnish National Agency for Education from where she coordinated the reform of the national curriculum from 2012 to 2016. Currently retired, she works as a curriculum expert for the OECD and UNESCO , and as a freelance teacher, teacher trainer and author for the research and consulting company Metodix Oy (Ltd).
Irmeli Halinen has been a member of various national education committees as well as national and international evaluation and development projects since the 1970s. At the beginning of her career, she worked as a teacher and school principal in Helsinki, and later as head of Instruction and Educational Development in the Department of Education of the City of Helsinki. For many years, he was a member of the Finnish National Commission for UNESCO, as well as a member of the National Council for Evaluation of Education in Finland. She has been actively involved in IBE-UNESCO and has worked as a curriculum expert and lecturer around the world. He belongs to the International Steering Committee for High Quality Problem-Based Learning (by BIE). She is the author of several books and articles on education.
