Cindy Johanson

Executive Director, Edutopia, George Lucas Foundation, San Rafael, CA, (USA).

Cindy has been leading the design and expansion of digital services with a focus on education for over 30 years. Prior to her work with Edutopia, Cindy was Senior Vice President of Education and Engagement for the Public Broadcasting Service. At PBS, she was responsible for the launch and growth of the award-winning pbs.org and its suite of Internet sites, including pbskids.org, pbsparents.org, and pbsteacher-source.org.

Cindy’s passion for online learning began in 1989 with modems and text-based interfaces when she managed teacher training and support for Learning Link, an online service for K-12 classrooms.

She is currently a member of the board of directors of The Crucible, a nonprofit industrial arts school in Oakland, California, and a member of the leadership council of XR Marin, a public regional training center for XR education and innovation (virtual reality, augmented reality and 360 degree video production).

Cindy has a Master’s degree from Teachers College at Columbia University and a BA in Communications from Ohio University.
